
Vessel of Light
Exhibition stand for OUI Lighting.
At two consecutive Shanghai Design Weeks, we had the opportunity to design two exhibition stands for OUI Lighting Company, centred around the theme of light.
In the first year, we designed a stand that utilised curved shapes to create dynamic negative spaces within a cubic structure. Inspired by the Klein bottle, we created three interconnected spaces, each with its own characteristics. As visitors moved through the stand, their perspective constantly changed and their field of vision was compressed and expanded by the curvature of the space. Soft light transitions emphasised the flowing impression of space and blurred the boundaries between light and shadow.
In the following year, everything was centred around the colour red. The focus was on clear lines and complex shapes. Three different shades of red were used to delineate the illuminated areas from the shaded ones, creating a nuanced interplay of warmth and coolness. This subtle play of colour not only enhanced the sculptural quality of the space, but also presented a challenge to the precision of the lighting, which had to adapt to a micro-differentiated colour environment.
在两届上海设计周上,我们分别为OUI灯光公司设计了两个各具特色的展台。每个展台都旨在通过独特的设计挑战并展示灯光的极限,并为参观者带来沉浸式的灯光体验。
第一年,我们以“弧面”为主题,创造了一个在长方体内通过弧面营造负空间的展台。设计灵感来源于克莱因瓶,构建了三个相互串联且各具特色的空间。参观者在流线中穿行时,视线不断被弧面挤压或撕开,体验空间的动态变化。这一过程考验了灯光的柔和度和光照边界的柔化能力,实现从亮到暗的自然过渡。
第二年,我们以“红色”为主题。提取机械零件的造型语言,创造出复杂而精确的空间。运用三种不同的红色调进行着色,迎光面暖,背光面冷,用色彩的微差变化强化形体感。这里考验灯光在微差色彩环境下的的显色准确性。
这两个展台都成为了设计周的焦点,通过其独特的设计和灯光效果,让参观者对灯光艺术和技术留下了难以忘怀的体验。
