Transformation of a research campus into a vibrant urban neighbourhood.

This project is part of our urban renewal series in Shanghai. It is a dynamic mixed-use park, seamlessly blending commercial and office spaces on the former site of the Shanghai Organic Products Research Institute. Located in the southwest of Shanghai, the site is strategically positioned with direct access to a 10-lane urban arterial road to the north and bordered by the scenic Pu Huitan River to the west.

We unified the three existing buildings along the main road with a cohesive architectural language, creating a continuous and harmonious facade that reinforces the park's overall identity. On the river side, the design takes a more intimate, human-scale approach, incorporating riverside balconies that effortlessly blend with the surrounding natural landscape.

At the heart of the park lies a central garden, surrounded by multifunctional spaces that offer a variety of experiences along internal alleyways. A riverside promenade further connects the development to the residential area to the south, fostering greater community interaction and engagement.

To promote spatial connectivity and movement, a ramp between the two main buildings links different levels, enhancing the dynamic flow of the space and creating an engaging atrium that invites exploration.

The project aims to create a people-focused environment that not only supports commercial and office functions, but also provides a vibrant public space for recreation, social interaction and community engagement.
